Filing of Income tax returns and processing of other IT related documents, submitting of requests etc, will be easier, through the online window introduced on the Income Tax web portal. Let’s take a look at the new online Income tax assessment system, introduced for the benefits of the taxpayers.
Online Income Tax Assessment System- A Major change that will make income tax less taxing
A new amendment in the system of Indian ITR filing and tax related workings has been brought by the Central Board of Direct Taxes or CBDT. The board made this declaration in the month of April 2017, stating their motto of minimizing human interface in the process of tax filing and assessment.
No Human Interface for Income Tax Assessments- a path breaking change brought by Narender Modi Government
Before April, the tax payers had to go through human interfaces to reach the tax Assessing Officer. After this fiscal year, things have changed. With online Income tax Assessment system, one can easily wrap up the tax related matters without any hassle.
The e-proceeding window for Online Income Tax Assessment System
The new Online Income tax Assessment system is to help erase the chances of corruption and harassment that a tax payer faces while reaching the assessing officer (AO). It will be introduced through the new window called ‘e-proceeding’ which will be available on the e-filing website. This window will be used for filing ITRs online.
Linking of the Internal Online Business Application Portal- for benefit of Income Tax Assesses
The Income tax website will also be linked to the internal online business application portal. This way, taxpayers will be relieved from visiting the Income tax office for petty to big problems like scrutiny of cases, refund and grievances for many other things.
The whole project has been announced on Monday 3rd April, by the CBDT, which makes such policies for the income tax department.
All Income Tax Assessment Proceedings to be online ? Is this fact or Dream? Would it wipe out Corruption in the system?
With the introduction of this new procedure, all kinds of proceedings related to IT will be initiated and processed online without much human intervention in between, while the AOs will be directly processing the request and evaluating things.
Freedom to choose any method for Income tax assessment- Manual or online
There is, however, no bindings or mandate as of now to use the e-filing system through the e-proceeding window. If one opts to manually submit the documents to the IT office for tax filing, then one may do so. Else the online ITR filling options is open for all.
A simplified registration process for Online Income Tax Assessments
The system or method to file income tax online has been simplified by making the registration process simple too. Through SMS and email of the tax payer, the confirmation is verified, that the same person tried registering online.
Through the e-proceeding system, questionnaire, notices, issuing of letters, and all such things will be possible. Even hearing notices will be available and downloadable online. Thus documentation will be ultimately simplified, and hassles can be avoided.
Where the email of such assessment replies is to be sent by assessee?
When communications will be done through this system, then all the communications sent to the taxpayer by the taxman will contain the official ‘@incometax.gov.in’ email id of the AO. To make workings smooth and methodical, timelines will also be added to every process.
How will entries be received on time through online submissions for Income Tax Assessments?
So that timely entries can be received within the predetermined date, the receipt of requests and responses will be closed automatically before seven days of the actual timeline. And in case any timeline was never there, the IT department will have the sole authority to close a submission anytime as deemed necessary.
The planning for this whole project stands on the success history of a pilot project of the same type, which was done as a test run, conducted a few months ago.
